1922 (Nikos Koundouros, 1978)
I have very little to say about this film other than utter my deepest admiration for a superb film. There are plenty of those who can go into the deeper contexts of the film - the history, the setting, the prevailing mood of the film. I was personally dumbfounded. I have seen films like this before but there's an intensity to Greek war films that cannot be found elsewhere. It feels as though they've lived these wars more intensely than many of their European counterparts. What else can I say?
